From Rejected to Chosen: The Backstory of Little Sprout and God’s Love

In August of 2020, while scrolling through our local Craigslist, I was on the hunt for baby goats to bring to Glory Hill Farm for our debut program, Farm Club. By late summer, most of the baby goats had already been sold, and the pickings were slim. But I came across a listing for baby goats, and after reaching out, I learned that there was just one left.

The owner told me that he wasn’t “picture perfect”—he was the runt of the litter and had a deformed horn. She sent pictures, and when I saw him, I immediately saw something special: this little goat had so much character. I knew right away he was the one. I went that weekend to pick him up, and we named him Sprout.

Sprout quickly became the darling of the farm. He was mischievous, silly, and full of curiosity. He loved sneaking crackers and cookies from our lunch boxes and was known for his clumsy antics, like losing his balance when trying to jump off hay bales. His unique horn made him stand out, and the children quickly started calling him “our little unicorn.” One child even pointed out that the markings on his belly looked like a smiley face. It was as if God had designed him just the way he was to bring joy and laughter to everyone around him.

One day, my mom (known to many as “Ms. Jennifer” at Farm Club) and I drove home from the barn after another fun day with the children. We were laughing together, reflecting on how much the kids loved Sprout and his funny little quirks. In that moment, it hit us: Isn’t this just like God? The rejected, imperfect goat—who was picked last—ends up being the one to bring the most joy.

Isn’t that how God chooses us?

Despite our flaws, imperfections, and moments when we feel like we don’t measure up, God chooses us, loves us, and reveals a beautiful purpose for our lives.
That’s when the idea for a children’s book came to us: Little Sprout Says Yes!

My mom, who has a gift for storytelling and teaching, began working on the book, and after much prayer and hard work, the story was finally picked up by a publisher. We are thrilled to announce that Little Sprout Says Yes! is released today on Valentine’s Day! This book tells the story of how Little Sprout, despite being seen as imperfect by the world, is chosen for a great purpose and brings joy to those around him. More than just a farm tale, it’s a reminder to children everywhere that they are deeply loved by God, exactly as they are.

They are chosen, they are precious, and their quirks and imperfections don’t disqualify them—they’re part of God’s beautiful plan. We are excited to share this message of God’s love and acceptance, and we hope it encourages children (and adults!). We would be honored if you would support the launch of Little Sprout Says Yes! by purchasing a copy or sharing it with your friends and family.

It’s a story that reminds us all: no matter what, we are chosen and loved by a God who sees our value beyond the surface. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We can’t wait for the world to meet Little Sprout and hear his story of joy, love, and purpose.
